Reporting to the EHS Manager and working closely with the Operations Management team, the position is responsible for supporting the Health and Safety Management System and OHS initiatives at the plant level.
Maintain working knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA) and updated Regulations, and make recommendations for their implementation
Work in a safe manner and with the protective devices, measures and procedures required by the Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations and as per the Company Policy
Make use of PPE (Personal Protective Devices) devices or clothing that the employer requires to be used or worn.
Oversee the WSIB Claims Management program and ensuring the effective implementation of a Return to Work Program, providing guidance and support to the supervisory team
Research, plan, organize training programs/seminars for supervisors, employees and contractors, with regard to, New Hire/Contractor Orientation, Safety Talks, Fall Protection, Personal Protection Equipment, Forklift, Aerial Work Platform, Crane and any other required training program
Assist in completing Job Hazard Analysis (JHAs) for critical jobs in conjunction with supervisors and specified employees, such as JHSC members
Coordinate EHS training programs and create training materials where required
Perform audits of Pre-Start Health & Safety Reviews (PSHSR) to ensure that corrective actions have been implemented and findings are documented
Schedule and lead JHSC meetings and produce meeting minutes on a pre-determined schedule
Provide timely reporting on Health & Safety statistics to the EHS Manager
Coach supervisors in performing accident/incident investigations
Participate in conducting monthly EHS workplace assessments and audits
Communicate and interact effectively with internal staff, visitors, clients and vendors
Liaise with the MOL, MOE, and other governing bodies (including TSSA, Fire Inspectors etc.)
Manage the contractor safety program: orientation training, records management, compliance with Polar-Pak requirements
Assist H&S Manager in dealing with workplace safety and environmental issues
Other duties as assigned by management.
Community College diploma or higher in a related field
5+ years of experience in Occupational Health & Safety in an industrial establishment, preferably in manufacturing
Experience in unionized work environment considered an asset
Strong ability to interpret legislation and assess EHS issues
Experience in WSIB Claims Management is required
Experience in auditing health and safety management systems
Thorough knowledge of the OHSA and workers’ compensation legislation
Strong organizational skills
Strong English communication skills (verbal and written)
Ability to work effectively and prioritize
Must be a highly motivated, service and team-oriented individual with high attention to detail
Proficient with database applications and with Microsoft Office
G Driver’s license, with a good driving record preferred
Typical office environment
Frequent travel to all six Polarpak facilities within Brampton
The use of safety equipment’s like ear plugs, safety shoes, hair net etc.
Working hours: mainly office hours, with occasional extra hours.
